About the event

As It Happens: Wargame Design and Prototyping in Real Time

Wargames are often about exploring future contingencies—but what happens when those contingencies arrive today? Professional wargamers sometimes need to design, prototype, and run games in near-real time to help decision-makers make sense of unfolding crises.

Join us for a behind-the-scenes look at rapid game development, with examples ranging from high-intensity conflict in Ukraine to low-intensity crises like piracy and Houthi activity in the Red Sea.

This “teach in” session will be led by Ian Brown, who brings 20 years of service with the Marines across diverse roles and more than two years supporting all Services through wargaming, analysis, and research. Ian’s work bridges history, theory, and practice… asking “what if?” to challenge how national security leaders think and decide. We’re so grateful to him for sharing his expertise with WWN.
